10 Ways to Be a Better Mom

Being a mom is the hardest job you’ll ever have. It might be full of joy, but it’s also full of stress and heartache. But there are ways to make it easier on yourself and your family members. Here are 10 things that will help you be a better mom:

1. Let your kids help

A recent study found that letting children do chores around the house helped improve their grades and get them to be nicer people. So stop telling them what to do every step of the way and let them help from time to time, it will make everyone happier for it.

2. Don’t over-schedule your kids

There are way too many things for our children to do these days. It’s easy to overbook them because there is so much available, but it will ultimately hurt them in the long run. They need time to breathe and develop their imagination and sense of independence. Letting them out into the world on their own can be scary but it will make them better people and help you be a better mom.

3. Let your kids see you cry

It’s important to let our children know that we are human too. They should also know that it is okay to cry, it does not mean they did something wrong or are weak in any way. There is no shame in showing some emotion, but doing it in private when possible is a good idea.

4. Don’t forget to have fun with your kids

This is the time to learn about and have fun with your children. When they are young they learn by playing and having fun activities together that will help you be a better mom later on. Try different things like cooking, catching bugs, making crafts, and other fun things.

7. Don’t be so hard on yourself

It’s important to realize that no one is perfect and you are doing your best. If you slip up from time to time forgive yourself and start over again. It’s easy to beat ourselves up when we mess up but don’t do it.

8. Accept help when offered

Don’t be embarrassed to ask for help or accept help from anyone who is willing to give it. Being a mom is hard and we need all the hands-on-deck that is available, don’t have an ego about asking for them. Also, take the advice you’re given, you might learn something that is helpful.

9. Don’t micromanage your kids

They need to have freedom and independence to develop into well-rounded adults, so don’t overcontrol them or tell them how to do everything. Let them make mistakes so they can learn from them and become stronger people because of it. It’s important that we let go at some point, but it doesn’t have to be the end of the world if you make a mistake.

10. Don’t let society tell you what to do

Society likes to put bad ideas in our heads about how we should raise our children. Trying to stay up with the latest trends or parenting methods is hard on parents because they don’t always work, but you will be doing your best if you avoid them. If it works for your family and is keeping everyone happy stay with that way of life.
