Health is the state of being free from illness or injury. A person who has achieved this state is said to be healthy.

On the other hand, Wellness is a more holistic approach to health that includes the balance in one’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being as well as an individual’s social environment. In other words, wellness is about your whole life, while health `refers to your body. This article will explore why you need to have both.

The health industry has thrived because most people would like to be healthy or look good. According to the medical profession, a person in good health is free from disease or illness. The only problem with this definition of health is that it fails to evaluate your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. This is why the word wellness was introduced to redefine health as a more holistic approach to being healthy, which includes the balance in all aspects of your life, including your social, environmental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

Working on achieving wellness means achieving harmony between the body and mind through daily exercise, meditation or yoga sessions, healthy eating habits, socializing, or relaxation techniques. This will enable you to be beneficial in the long run.

To achieve proper health and wellness, one has to have an active role in improving their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being because they are just as important as your body and mind when it comes to achieving a healthier you.

The definition of wellness is the same as health; however, it applies to your whole life, while health just refers to your body. According to WebMD, wellness can include eating a well-balanced diet, performing daily exercises, having good mental and spiritual health, practicing preventive screenings or examinations, and getting enough sleep each night. The goal is to achieve balance in your life, and this can only be done when you address all aspects of wellness.

Most important, however, is to maintain a positive outlook on life no matter what challenges come your way. Having a positive approach to life that includes a good relationship with yourself, others, the environment, the universe, and God will make you feel more alive and bring more happiness into your life.

Two essential components of improving your health and well-being are relieving stress through exercise, breathing techniques or yoga, and eating healthy food. Exercise is crucial because it helps the blood circulate, enabling more oxygen and other nutrients to be delivered throughout the body, which increases energy levels. Also, an increase in metabolism aids in weight loss, thus making you look better.

One of the most effective forms of physical exercise is yoga, as it relaxes muscles and relieves stress by calming your mind and enabling you to focus on yourself. It will also aid in muscle strength, stimulate the endocrine system and improve flexibility which is essential for weight loss. Breathing techniques are vital because oxygen plays a role in releasing energy. Yoga is also helpful in increasing flexibility and strength while reducing stress, sickness and promoting relaxation. Studies have shown that yoga helps treat anxiety disorder, depression, and bipolar disease and improve sleep quality, among many other benefits.

Eating healthy foods promotes weight loss, increases antioxidants, which fight against disease, and improves overall mental health, making you feel happier.

Taking care of your mind through relaxation techniques such as meditation and regular visits to the spa is also a great way to achieve wellness by balancing your emotions, increasing spiritual growth, and improving mental strength. This will help prevent stress, leading to heart disease, high blood pressure, or an increase in anxiety levels, among other mental health issues.

Spirituality is important because it aids in the sense of purpose, meaning, and values vital for emotional health. Having some sense of direction in life as far as your goals, values, and beliefs can be beneficial to you when it comes to achieving wellness. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), spirituality refers to “an individual’s search for meaning and purpose in life that is not specifically religious or spiritual, but may be connected to specific historically grounded religious and cultural traditions.” This means that the steps one takes to achieve wellness can be individualistic as long as it makes them feel good about themselves.

Lastly, happiness has been proven through studies on health. It is vital to have friends, maintain a sense of humor, and practice mindfulness by accepting and loving yourself. According to an article published by the APA, studies show that happiness is more than just feeling good as it provides “many beneficial effects on physical health.” Joy has been linked to positive emotions, which improve immune system functioning, among other benefits.

The goal of achieving health and well-being is to balance all aspects of wellness in your life. This means that you need to address physical fitness, such as getting enough sleep each night, exercise, and healthy eating habits, while also focusing on mental wellness by practicing mindfulness, relaxation techniques, or spirituality.
